Tiredness

Tiredness

Tiredness is a common symptom of early pregnancy. Possible reasons for the tiredness include:

    • The sedative effect of high levels of the hormone progesterone

    • An increase in metabolic rate that supports the developing fetus

    • Nausea

It is not uncommon for women to get a full night's sleep, only to wake up and still feel lethargic and tired, as the body adjusts to the enormous metabolic changes that occur in the first trimester. The tiredness and fatigue usually subside (around 12-14 weeks) bringing renewed energy.
